How to wear shorts confidently
The Ultimate Tips for Effortlessly Rocking Shorts
I admit, I don’t necessarily like my legs in shorts. I’m self conscious about my pale skin and lovely little spider veins that are appearing as I get older. (Cue the eye roll here, I know.) But sometimes, like when I was on a vacation to Costa Rica, there’s just no other way to beat the heat. So you have to embrace it.
Here are some things I’ve done over time to confidently wear shorts.
Wear a duster or ruana with denim cut-offs.
A long ruana is a super light layer that gives your legs just a little more coverage. A duster or ruana is also great to throw on when you step out of the heat into your favorite restaurant that has the air conditioning on full blast.
Go longer.
Look for a longer inseam. Depending on your height, that can be anywhere from 5 to 9 inches. Bermuda shorts are also a great option.
Or, do you have a pair of jeans in your closet that have been well worn or are slightly out of style? It’s easy to cut them off yourself! I even have a tutorial about how to do it.
Draw the eye up.
Highlight another part of your body you love, like your shoulders. To further draw the eye up, put on a fabulous necklace or statement earrings. I also like wearing an elevated top that has embellishment or puff shoulders.
Mind the rise
If you don’t have a short torso, look for shorts with a higher rise to elongate and slenderize the look of your legs.
Wear a wider leg
The tighter the shorts are around the leg, the larger your legs will look. I always look for a wider opening the creates an A-line. This is especially good for gals with a pear (bigger on the bottom) body shape.
Try some short culotte length pants.
OK, they’re not shorts but they’re shorter than pants. :-) Look for ones with breathable fabric, like cotton or linen. I also love wearing breezy pants rather than shorts sometimes.
Take care of your legs!
Skincare doesn’t have to be reserved for your face. Pay just as much attention to your legs. Here are a couple leg care tips:
Exfoliate. I especially like to use a dry brush before getting into the shower. Of course, a good salt or sugar rub is effective as well.
In addition to self-tanners and spray tans, use leg makeup. My favorite is from Best Bronze. After moisturizing, you can also use an illuminator or highlighter on your legs. It’s how celebs get their shiny legs for walking the red carpet!
