Mix up your wardrobe and discover new outfits

A lot of people are worried about where the economy is going--for good reason. But if you’re curbing your spending, it doesn’t mean you have to buy clothes to have some new outfits. Actually, most people wear 20% of their closet 80% of the time. Yes, you only wear 20% of your clothes! AND, on top of it, many women wear their outfits exactly the same way. Every time.

I dived into Liz’s wardrobe and created brand new outfits with her existing pieces. Some of them were in another closet getting no love, or were buried in the bottom of drawers.

For the first hour, it looked like a bomb exploded in her room! We were pulling items out of various closets and laying them on the floor, mixing them up to create new outfits. Voila! More than a dozen new looks. Here are a few of our faves.

This blazer was Liz’s dubbed “interview blazer” that she has had for many years and wore only to the office in a corporate looking outfit. The blazer is in great shape, so we put it over a pretty white sleeveless blouse, dark denim skinny jeans and some neutral peep toe booties. We topped it off with a beautiful scarf Liz received as a gift nearly 20 years ago but was hiding in a box on the top shelf of her closet! Ready for a glass of wine on a restaurant patio.

To make it a casual or weekend look, we swapped out the black shell for a graphic tee, put her in some chunky white sneakers and popped that collar on the blazer!

Liz has great legs so her cutoff denim shorts look fabulous on her. But she tended to only wear them with a sleeveless top and flat sandals. She looks fabulous that way! But I pulled out this cotton mesh long sleeve shirt Liz has only worn once because she didn’t really know what to make of it. We pumped up the look by layering a hot pink tank underneath (which somehow made it to her daughter’s room) put on a sandal with a slight block heel and a colorful necklace. Now she’s got a fun summer evening outfit!
